It says the 1" comes as 12 panels but down further it says comes in pack of 6. So do you get 6 or 12 panels of the 1" 2x4' panels?

Yes, this product on the ceiling will absorb a good portion of the slap echo you are hearing between wall/floor/ceiling surfaces. If you can fit some panels positioned at 45º angles in a couple of corners, you would make another significant improvement - - but it does challenge the space a bit.
