Endlessgreen Pen Blank trimmer, also called a Barrel trimmer. These are to made fit standard size 7mm "slimline" pens. Used to square the ends of a pen blank prior to turning and assembly Can be ed in drill chuck or in fitted on a wooden handle (not supplied) Suitable for 7mm pens (7mm is the standard size) Overall length approx 3" (75mm) Most people when they start penmaking try cutting or sanding the end of a pen blank square, but you will be extremely lucky to get it exactly right and you will ruin far more pens then you will ever get right, the problem is you wont see the fault until you start assembling the pen, then that thousandths of an inch out of square will look huge and its too late. These pen blank trimming tools are excellent, these are in our opinion the best in the world and are the choice of most professional woodturners. To use: After you have drilled the pen blank and glued the brass tubes in place and the glue has set, use the Pen blank trimming tool (also called a barrel trimmer) to square off the ends of the pen blank. This is very simple task, but important because otherwise the finished pen will not look right when the two halves of the pen go together. The trimming tool can be ed in a chuck on the lathe, this just to hold the tool (don't turn the power on) or do as I have done and make a simple wooden handle for the trimming tool and use it a bit like you would a pencil sharpener, hold the blank in your hand - pop in the tool it only takes a few short turns (clockwise) and the edges should now be finished and dead square. Then put the blanks on your pen mandrel and turn as normal.
